CONTEXT
For a project focused on creating an animated demonstration of a product of our choice, I selected the Scribble Pen—a unique tool known for its innovative capabilities.
"Easy to use and comfortable to work with, Scribble puts all the colors of the world in your hands. Scan any color and start drawing or writing with it instantly. Scribble stores your colors too, so you can upload, share and use them wherever, whenever you want."
The main objective was to craft a compelling narrative that effectively conveyed the product's features and potential. This project marked my first experience with the process and intricacies of animation, making it both a challenging and exciting endeavour.
APPROACH
1. Research and Inspiration
Inspired by a feature post on a design-focused Facebook page, I chose the Scribble Pen due to its popularity and creative potential. The goal was to create an engaging animatic that highlighted the pen's innovative features, capturing the viewer's imagination. This pen was making moves and being in the spotlight more often than not, at the time. What better for a first animation project, than the creative and unique pen?
2. Narrative Creation
Developing a clear and engaging narrative was crucial. The story needed to demonstrate the Scribble Pen's capabilities while maintaining a coherent and visually appealing flow. I focused on crafting a storyline that showcased the pen's versatility and unique features.
3. Planning and Storyboarding
The planning phase involved detailed storyboarding to visualise the animation sequence. This step-by-step blueprint ensured that each scene effectively communicated the intended message. It also allowed for iterative refinement, enhancing the narrative's clarity and impact.
4. Mediums and Methods
Throughout the project, I explored various animation techniques and tools. This hands-on experience enriched my understanding of different mediums and methods, providing a comprehensive foundation for executing the final animation.
ITERATIVE PROCESS
1. Ideation and Sketching
Initial sketches and brainstorming sessions helped solidify the core concept. I experimented with different visual styles and animation techniques to find the best approach for representing the Scribble Pen.
2. Wireframing and Prototyping
Creating wireframes and prototypes allowed for testing and refining the animation's flow. This iterative process ensured that each element of the animation was purposeful and aligned with the overall narrative.

The animation phase involved bringing the storyboard to life through meticulous design and motion graphics. Regular feedback sessions and user testing helped identify areas for improvement, leading to a polished final product.
